Languages of Pakistan

Language is that part of human life, which has been created by the social loving attitude of man. Basically man has created it to fulfil his own social needs making communication possible and to understand the feelings and experience of others. Language is a very important part of culture rather language plays a massive role in creating and polishing a culture.

Pakistan is a totally different country as far as its languages are concerned from rest of the world. Because it has got so much different languages spoken within its boundaries. There are only a few countries with such diversity of medium of communication. It's also an interesting point that a person belonging to an area hardly understands the language spoken in neighbouring area or province.

Urdu is Pakistan's national language. It has given birth to
such big philosophers, poets and writers that world won't forget them. Some of them like Allama Iqbal who is known as "The Poet of the East" and Maulvi Abdul Haq who is known as the "father of Urdu" because of his remarkable service for the language.

Urdu is a word of Persian meaning "Army". When Mughals conquered this region, their language Arabic combined with languages spoken at local level to form a new one which later was termed as Urdu. Urdu is a very rich language which has got words of Persian, Arabic, Hindi and English as well. It's the language widely spoken in Pakistan being the national language but mostly English is used as documental language. English is the medium of instruction in urban areas while in rural areas Urdu is used.

Apart from these languages which are used at national level there are languages like Punjabi (spoken in Punjab), Sindhi (Sindh), Balochi (Balochistan) & Pashto (NWFP) which are confined to provincial level only. These regional languages are given a lot of privilege by the Pakistan government and especially Pakistani people to promote the culture of Pakistan.

Punjabi is the most famous of all languages because of the fact that Punjab holds the greatest share of population. There are very famous and well-known singers who sing only in Punjabi and are famous al across Asia. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan internationally recognized for his Qawwalis, many sung in Punjabi and almost all of them caught success.

Abida Parveen another very well known musical figure caught fame by singing mystic poetry of Sidhi of some famous Sufis like Baba Bulle Shah. Recently a very famous "Sufi" Rock band, Junnon dedicated their album "Parvaaz"(flight) to Baba Bulle Shah who is very famous especially among Asian Muslims for his mystic poetry.
